How to get more women and minorities into STEM fields: CBS News

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.

— A small community of about 200 people in the heart of Arkansas’ capital has become a national model for how to help more minorities and women enter the workforce.CBS News has learned that over the past few years, the community has hosted dozens of workshops, seminars and other events that have helped hundreds of young women get started in STEM fields.

The program was started by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Diversity Education Program and has been replicated across the country.

The training classes have taken place at many colleges, high schools and universities, including UAB, Southern Methodist University and other colleges.CBS’ Jennifer Grady reports.
