A man died Saturday morning after he was shot at a classroom at a Texas high school, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 8 a.m. at Hidalgo County High School, said Hidalgos Police Capt. Kevin McCurdy.
No other students were injured.
The suspect was identified as a teacher from the school.
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
A witness said he heard the shooting and saw the gunman, who was armed with a handgun, run toward the classroom.
A school resource officer spotted the suspect in the classroom and began firing at him, McCurdy said.
The officer returned fire and the suspect fled, police said.
No one else was in the school at the time of the shooting, but the shooting was not immediately clear if the suspect was the gunman or a bystander.
The teacher, whose name was not released, was identified by his family as John Edward Jones.
He was in his mid-20s.
Jones is survived by his wife, a daughter and two grandchildren.
